Yorkshire (again) & Northumbria
Making our way up to Scotland we went via Yorkshire (to pick up some warm clothes) only to find a couple of days prior that my suitcase has gone missing with all my winter gear. Guess who’ll be wearing the same pair of jeans every day for the foreseeable future? 🙂
Spent the night at the Old White Lion Pub, where we went to an English Pub for the first time this year! We spent 3 months in England earlier this year but all the pubs were closed (in fact, everything was closed!).
We tried Black Pudding for breakfast the next morning …. let’s just say …. first and last time 🙂
We had read/heard that Robin Hood’s Bay was very nice so we headed there, hoping to have lunch before driving to Newcastle for the night. Unfortunately, the UK was experiencing storm “Alex” over pretty much the entire country and as a result, I can bring you these very scenic pics of our drive through the Yorkshire Moors.
We were fortunate though – France and some other countries had homes washed away from the same storm.
On arrival at Robin Hood’s Bay, there was little motivation to get out of the car – carparks were full despite the weather, it was raining, windy and foggy – so we decided to give Whitby a try. (Yes, we are still southern hemisphere wusses!!)
Weather was marginally better there, but at the car park, you could only pay with coins (didn’t have any of those) or with the parking app that I can’t download – thanks Apple! (see post earlier this year on Stratford upon Avon), so we gave up on Whitby and drove to Newcastle to spend the night.
The next day, we drove to Edinburgh via Alnwick castle, which has had films like Harry Potter, Downton Abbey and Robin Hood (Prince of Thieves) filmed there.
We then drove onto Bamburgh where we had lunch and a quick walk past the castle and the beach before heading on to Edinburgh for the night.

It only seems like yesterday you were in Turkey! And what a difference in the weather!! Is there no quarantine cos you’ve been overseas?
We have a very good friend in Aberdeen – do let me know if you’re going there cos I’d love to introduce you. You would have met at our wedding …

Well, this is a big change from Turkey – weather and culture have changed dramatically. So glad you got to the big bazaar in Istanbul before taking off for Robin Hood country. Stay warm and uninfected. Love to you and Ms. Jarrah. Can’t wait to see her next pics!

Such a change in the weather, beautiful castle.

Hi ladies! What dreary weather – the moors really looke like oyu expect moors to look in the rain and fog! Re: black pudding, totally agree. Not a fan! Carry on and may the weather be more kind in the coming weeks. And may you find your missing suitcase or buy some new warm clothes Sandra! xx

… pushing my nerd glasses up my nose …
Excuse me, but Downton Abbey is not a film. It’s a TV series. I would appreciate it if those experts that are along for this journey would do their job and find such clerical errors before submitting of blog posts.
That is all. 😀
Sandy
Excuse me nerd, but I think you’ll find there was a FILM as well as the TV series.
