Edinburgh

Although the forecast for Edinburgh and the whole of Scotland for the next week or two (ie: the duration of our stay) is for lots of rain, we had some sunny skies on arrival in Edinburgh.

Having arrived late afternoon, we only took a walk around Edinburgh the following morning. First stop was the Castle (where it started raining), then down The Royal Mile…

… popping into Saint Giles’ Cathedral …

… before arriving at the Palace of Hollyroodhouse (Queeny’s official residence when in Scotland).

We were offered, and accepted, a free audio guide (we don’t normally as we have the attention span of gnats) and actually found it quite interesting … however, not interesting enough to remember any of it to record here! ๐Ÿ™‚ Except for the murder that took place there. You can read about it here, if you’re interested.

After a spot of clothes shopping (shoes and warm jacket) given that it appears it will be a while before my suitcase and I are re-united, we headed out for a bite to eat at the closest pub to our hotel – which happened to be “Malones” (an Irish pub if you couldn’t tell) and also happened to be having a trivial night.

Long story short – we started off winning a round of drinks for having the best team name (“Broads Abroad” of course) and then won a bottle of Prosecco by coming second (even against a team of six) with a whopping 25/50! ๐Ÿ™‚ So, we had a great night out in Edinburgh – much better than my last trip to Edinburgh which had me vowing to “never return”.

Holy Shit! Your “Mary Queen of Scots” story reads like a “telenovela” – that is Portuguese for a soap opera. Blood, gore, pregnancy, what a mix! Well, such was life in mideval time. On the otherhand, living through Trump time is scarry! Glad you are getting some warm clothes, sorry your suitcase lost you on the way. Stay warm and safe. Love to both you beautiful ladies!

Just loved the character of the buildings & streets. Congrats to you both on your win, sounds like a fun evening. Hugh says ” What, you got something for free in Scotland” (audio).

Well โ€˜ello there Gnats ๐Ÿ˜ƒ With 2 nd place gaining you much needed alcohol, Iโ€™m sure you deserved it – obviously the MaCallan fuddled brains from the table of six were of the wee variety without much room for general knowledge – thatโ€™s what happens youโ€™re fed black pudding throughout bairn-hood. Glad to hear you are not keen to expose your gullets to that sort of prehistoric sustenance hereon in (as opposed to heroin, which spell check just took upon itself to correct my typing!!…)
From my experience Sandy lost suitcases end up in an enormous auction warehouse, philfered of course of the weird & wonderful content, with only the everyday essentials being left in a shambled surprise for those who wish to claim their mystery purchase. After that leap from the heavens recently you probably need two sizes smaller now anyway so those highland cattle need to shed a hair or two for you to get a beautiful tartan McCrossland hoodie ordered. From the photos winter is well on the way, Gorgeous photos of Turkey etc, along with you maintaining this blog for over 10 months with such dedication has kept us totally enthralled while we lead our otherwise mundane lives back here waiting for borders to open. Oh, no complaints – just the gypsy in me getting restless every time I immerse myself in the spot youโ€™re in. Such a fantastic armchair travel experience you have given us all – thanks Broads ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’“

Hi girls! am jealous! Of the trivia night – I am having withdrawal. Been looking online and other places for lists of trivia questions for our little sojourn to Jervis Bay in November with Mads & Jason (+ 2 puppies and the cat). We all enjoy our trivia games – looking forward to it. Nothing as exciting as winning alcohol in a pub trivia night in Edinburgh though! Congratulations you clever broads ๐Ÿ™‚ P.S. – that is quite an organ St Giles has!!

It just occured to me – many of the pictures you guys have been capturing through your journey – these are pictures that would only normally be available in marketing brochures, both printed & online. Nary a soul in many of them. This virus can of course go and sod off. But even though you had to re-jigger the trip more than a few times, you guys are one of a very, and I mean VERY few people that will actually have gotten to see all of these tourist attractions … without tourists. I hope that point doesn’t go lost.

And uh, in the next few months, if you’re looking to pub quiz, well, I know this cheeky little bar in Regensburg that sometimes likes to throw it’s quizes online in a virtual fashion. Just sayin’. ๐Ÿ˜‰
