Plitvice Lakes
The reason we chose the Airbnb was because of its close proximity to Plitvice Lakes – one of THE must-sees in Croatia.
The national park is world-famous for its lakes arranged in cascades. Sixteen lakes can be seen from the surface. These lakes are a result of the confluence of several small rivers and subterranean karst rivers that are all interconnected.
They are separated by natural dams of sensitive travertine barriers that are the result of an interaction between water, air and plants. The encrusted plants and bacteria accumulate on top of each other, forming the travertine barriers which grow at the rate of about 1cm per year.
The 16 lakes are separated into an upper and lower cluster formed by runoff from the mountains, descending from an altitude of 636 to 503 m over a distance of 8 kilometres, aligned in a south–north direction. The lakes collectively cover an area of about 1.2 square kilometres.
The lakes are renowned for their distinctive colors, which are just stunning as you can see. They range from azure to green, grey or blue, changing constantly depending on the quantity of minerals or organisms in the water and the angle of sunlight.
Absolutely stunning part of the world … you need to come to Croatia and you need to see Plitvice Lakes! And you most definitely need to stay at Zlatko’s Airbnb!
Did I mention it is STUNNING??? Has to be seen to be believed.

I hope that you get to see the ancient monastery at Sveti Jovan Bigorski and the lovely little fishing village of Sveti Stefan which is now a unique hotel. Can’t remember if Bigorski is to the south or the north of you but Sveti Stefan is definitely to the south on the coast. Both, very photogenic for different reasons.
Glad you are enjoying the Lake district. Your photography of the region is stunning.
Stay COVID safe! Thanks for the gift of your beautiful photography, Jarah. You are incredibly talented. Love your Mom’s commentary as well.

Yeah – Plitvice is stunning and one, if not THE favourite of everywhere we’ve been so far (in terms of scenery).
