Schwerin

All I can say is … if you haven’t been to Schwerin …. Why not? And I highly recommend that you do so as soon as possible. I’ve found my people and I’m moving. Not even snappy woman in convenience store can deter me!

On the banks of Schwerin Lake, it is a very quaint city with cobbled streets, varied and beautiful architecture and lots of outdoor restaurants in squares surrounded by manicured trees. Comes with a huge cathedral with bells too – what more could you want?

I must confess, I was not looking forward to driving on the wrong side of the road again (yes, I said it!! the WRONG side) and especially on the Autobahns with no speed limits. Additionally, the #@*&%! car hire woman insisted on giving me an SUV (known in our household as a “child-killer”) to drive when I specifically booked something smaller/better/practical/not-a-child-killer. Long story short – LOVING the brand new VW T-Roc that basically drives itself (it’s TRUE! even brings itself to a complete stop behind cars without crashing into them!) Keeps driving over kerbs though 🙂 I also set a personal new land speed record of 150km/hr (I held back because of Jarrah).

Schwerin Palace, built during the 900’s, is a castle situated in stunning grounds on an island in Lake Schwerin. It was home to dukes and grand dukes for centuries and has beautiful gold finishes and other pretty details, as you’ll see below!

Some pretty little walkways around the castle:

Perhaps even better than the castle itself is the garden found around the back – was absolutely breathtaking, littered with vibrant flowers, pristine statues, and a pretty fountain – almost too much to take in all at once!

Daily Giggle

Responding to German server in Turkish restaurant with “Si!” instead of “yes” or “Ja” (clearly too fluent in Spanish after 6 weeks in Central America) 🙂
THE PITFALLS OF BEING SO MULTI-LINGUAL

To paraphrase the Carpenters – You’ve Only Just Begun! You are now setting out on a trip of infinite castles. I would think that in the vast majority of the places you will visit, there will be some crazy palace or fortress. Thankfully, we have neither. As for the 150km/hr, if it was anything like me, at about that point you were closing in on pooing your pants and slowed down. At least, I remember I did that the first time I was here. Just remember not to doddle in the passing lane and everything will be fine! 😀

Am with you Sandy – not a fan of driving on the wrong side of the road. And isn’t it insane the opulence of the castles! Beautiful weather too!

I’m so happy for you both!! We have started out again. Heading north to Washington. In Grants Pass now. Stayed at a Harvest Host Apricot Farm one night!! Pretty cool. Love being a part of your journey!! Many Blessings to you both 💞
