Heading to Corpus Christi

Prior to leaving San Antonio, we heard that New Orleans had imposed some restrictions with regard to Bourbon Street etc. We had planned to spend some time parked ON the beach at Padre Island (barrier island along the southern coast of Texas – on the Gulf of Mexico), Magnolia Beach and Crystal beach. HOWEVER, weather forecast for the next week is rain, rain, thunder storms and high winds. Hmmm!! Already been towed once …

Fortunately managed to find a Boondockers Welcome host with a ranch near Corpus Christi that agreed to have us so decided to take refuge there whilst we assess the weather.

Friendly neighbour

Went shopping at Walmart and was shocked to find fridges and shelves empty of everything but alcohol and junk food – EMPTY!  No meat, chicken, eggs, bottled water, pasta, rice, noodles, pasta sauces, flour, beans or anything remotely associated with cleaning. Even with staff (a) closing off the toilet paper aisle (b) forcing people to queue and (c) limiting people to one pack per person – somehow, some people managed to get 5 packs – only to be told at the check-out ONE ONLY.  Seriously people!! We made do with buying what we could but what about people who are ill, elderly, sick etc? Hopefully the delinquents that now have stockpiled enough food for a year will at least stay the hell out of the stores for the next 6 months and things can return to normal. In the meantime, we’ll have to shop AGAIN in a few days because (a) there wasn’t enough to buy and (b) we don’t have the space for much, much less stock piling!

Received a very warm welcome from Julia at the Ranch who told us we can stay as long as we like. Provided us with electricity and said she doesn’t want any money for it – remember we are already staying on these people’s property for free.  She has four beautiful horses, 3 dogs and a husband 😊

Below: Dolf – German import. THE most gorgeous horse I’ve ever met – came over and gave me kisses. In LOVE.
