The Windmill Winery
A couple of “firsts” today … first of all – on a multi-lane motorway where the speed limit was 75mph, I decided that one sure way of ensuring that everyone wasn’t flying past us 20mph faster than us, was to join them (can you tell I’m not so freaked out by driving anymore?). Second, we hit our first real traffic jam on the motorway bypassing Phoenix (at 3pm in the afternoon – NO excuse for a traffic jam really). Which led to two more “firsts” – not one but two drivers actually slowed down to let me change lanes!! Faith restored in Americans (or at least the ones in Arizona) AND then as the slow lane was practically going backwards with more and more traffic feeding in, I decided to use the HOV lane which was still moving (meaning I had to get across 4 lanes of bumper to bumper traffic) – mission accomplished without any casualties – so very happy with myself. By the way the HOV lane is a transit lane (min 2 or more people in the car).
Pride somewhat short lived though – close to our destination, I had to wait for oncoming traffic before I merged into a lane, even though I’d seen the RED car in the side mirror, when a WHITE car passed me, I proceeded to pull out – nearly took said red car out; Jarrah and I sh*t ourselves but driver of the red car appeared to be blissfully unaware as there was no response at all.
Spent the night at another HH winery – this one specifically chosen as they have live music and a food truck on Thursday & Saturday nights. Lovely venue that also hosts weddings etc. Food truck on Thursday was a “Lobster” truck – we had “Garlic Crab Fries” which were delish! Got a doggy-fix as there was a lovely 2yr old Goldie called Reece and a pavement-special called Linus was singing along with the musician 😊

Also met the owners of two of the SIX other RVs spending the night tonight. Spent some time talking to a couple from Alaska who were lovely people and somehow THEY brought up Trump and not in exactly flattering terms so I made the comment “Every American we meet appears not to be a Trump fan, so I’m wondering who the HELL voted for him?” – “We did” …… uh-oh!! AWKWARD!!! 😊 Fortunately, they laughed it off and went on to tell us that they are mortified by his social media posts but still think it was the right decision for them as they are business owners and the alternative at the time wasn’t great (apparently – don’t shoot the messenger 😊). They also said that generally they don’t mention that they voted for him as there can be such a backlash from other Americans. Clearly a man that has divided the nation – pretty much like my dear friend Boris in the UK (who – by the way, I actually liked 25+ years ago). Note I said LIKED – past tense.
