Hebden Bridge

Took a short drive through the lovely Yorkshire countryside on Saturday to Hebden Bridge which is reputedly “the quirkiest/kookiest/koolest/most LGBTQ-friendly/least chain-store-y etc small town in the universe” (theguardian.com)

It didn’t disappoint. Really beautiful town at the confluence of the River Calder and the Hebden Water …

… also home to the Rochdale Canal, lined with houseboats and home to ducks and geese. (Note the blue skies!!).

Yorkshire saying: How do you tell young plants from weeds? Pull ’em all aht. If they come up again, they’re weeds! 🙂

Unfortunately, Hebden Bridge is in a flood area and on 22 December 1837 suffered “the highest flood recorded” so far when water levels reached a massive nine feet in places. The most recent flood being in Feb 2020.

Fun Fact:
Ed Sheeran lived in Hebden Bridge as a young boy before moving to Suffolk with his family

Awww, you two!! After immersing myself in that little village (pulling vegetation out along the way) I had a “beam me up Scotty” wash over me, but fast realisation that we can only travel within Queensland sooo…..the barge along the canal will have to wait unless you both decide to do it on my behalf? 🛥 Know what you mean about – so many people – isolation has proved to me that I have inherent cave woman tendencies…happy to grub in the garden to grow things, with an occasional river outing ( barging will do). And those blue skies emit warmth, the washy sun here took a while to adjust our 4 degrees yesterday morning to something more acceptable to stop the hairs on my legs sprouting threefold…To say I am envious Sandy is quite an understatement but that’s ok – we shall have our Saturday gathering with puppies and discuss you till your ears burn.
    Still loving your postsđź’«

How dare Outlook put this in my Spam!!! Sacrilege! What a stunning little place! I want to be there right now! It’s just beautiful and on days like this, you have to pinch yourself to remind yourself just where you are! Love to both of you. Di xx
