Malham
Today (Sunday) we took a drive through part of the Yorkshire Dales …. what can I say – God’s own country for sure!! It was a chilly (10C), windy, rainy day but we braved the elements and were not disappointed – the scenery was just stunning!!
First stop was meant to be Malham Cove – however, we didn’t fancy the 2 mile walk in the rain (yes, Southern Hemisphere Whimps) – maybe another day. In the meantime you can look here. Some of the scenes from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows were filmed here at Malham Cove and Gordale Scar.
Above and below: The walk to Gordale Scar, alongside the beck.
Gordale Scar – is a huge gorge and its true size is only visible once you turn the corner into the Scar itself. It was was created during the Ice ages, melt water creating a cavern that eventually collapsed to create the waterfall and gorge you see today including smooth rocks formed by Tufa deposits.
More of Gordale Scar and surrounds.
Below left – Gordale Scar. See if you can spot the humans in three of the pics below (one had a mustard coat on) to give you an idea of the scale of the gorge. Just noticed something – Can you see Sully’s face (Monster’s Inc) in the bottom right pic?
Enjoying the Spring weather. Brolly gives a hint of how hard the wind was blowing.
Pics taken near Janet’s Foss. Foss being Scandinavian for waterfall – or so I’m told 🙂
More of Janet’s Foss (waterfall) and surrounds.
From across the pool, we could see something on the left bank – at first we thought … giant mushrooms? … no, giant crab? …. decided to get a bit closer .. was a mumma duck (head tucked in) with at least two little chicks tucked under her.
Last but not least, stopped a couple of times today to “talk to the animals” Had a chuckle at the cow, who was high above the road and was peering down at us over an ivy covered stone wall to get a look as we went by 🙂
Did you know?
True Story!
To bring you these posts (that enrich your lives so much) … not only hours of photo editing and uploads for each blog by Jarrah, but under current lock-down conditions … (no public toilets open) we can’t go to the loo from the time we leave (approx 9.30/10am) until the time we arrive back (approx 2-3pm)!

Stunning pics! And made me realise just how much there is to explore in England that I haven’t seen yet!

Beautiful pictures even though the weather was not great. You are looking so well too.

Stunning scenery. Thanks for sharing the beauty of your surrounds. It is a very grey and windy day here in Sydney with rain, but nothing like what was falling in your neck of the woods. Tender pic of Mother Duck and her chicks. Stunning photos of the rock formations. Mother earth is so beautiful and the Brits seem to know how to care for her. Take care of yourselves, stay well and dray. Enjoy your quarantine. It seems to be getting tighter in the UK and loosening up little by little here in Oz. Love, hugs and keep warm and dry.

I DID see Sully there. But the first few pictures you posted – with all of the sheep & walls. It must be a wonderful place to fall asleep! (One sheep … two sheep … three sheep …) 😀
