San Antonio

Somewhat of a revolting start to the day. Went to Botanical Gardens in Austin (had trouble finding them) and then they were a tad disappointing. Walked to the Barton Pools which the internet told us would be open today, only to find they were still closed.

Then it took 3 hair-raising attempts to try to get onto the correct road to San Antonio. The psycho bitches kept telling us to say in “left” lane, only to find that is a “u-turn only” lane (NOT where we need to go). Second time around, ignored them and stayed in 2nd from left lane only for that to be a “left only” (NOT where we need to go – sensing a theme here?).  By this time we were both losing our sense of humour and to add to the fun, I turned left into a road – on the WRONG side (short left instead of long left)!  That got Jarrah’s heart rate going 😊

Then at some other point somewhere – I was merging left and nearly took out a car in my blind spot, despite checking a million times and indicating for about half an hour before moving! So all in all, a fun time had by all!

By the time we arrived at the campsite at San Antonio we were frazzled (to say the least). Fortunately, it was a lovely RV park, clean and spacious, with a pool AND a hot tub, clean showers and a laundry with 8 brand new washers and dryers (installed that day).  Amazing what gets you excited when you’re in an RV away from home! We were booked for 2 nights – decided to extend to 3 nights to take a deep breath and relaaaxxx.

Met a lovely lady from Wisconsin in the Laundry and her and her hubby offered to lend us their bikes the next day to cycle the “river walk” all the way into town.

Very scenic ride and downtown San Antonio was VERY picturesque, very European looking. We had a walk around and then had lunch at an Italian restaurant on the river (more like a man made canal at this part of town). Despite it being the Saturday before St Patrick’s day, the place was practically deserted – hardly a soul in any of the restaurants (this was before any lock-downs, social distancing etc).

Took a walk to The Alamo but decided against the block long queue and cycled back to the campsite. So much for relaxing! Was nearly dead by the time we got back!
