Tamarindo Unfiltered
We LOVED …
Sunsets over the sea …
Brunch on the beach ….
Cocktails at sunset on the beach
The Food
Guaro (white spirit like Vodka – only cheaper)
Apple Smirnoff (pre-mix in a can)
The wildlife – everywhere. Monkeys, iguana’s, birds, sloths, dogs & cats. Jarrah not so keen on the scorpions but they’re easier to catch than a Huntsman 🙂
The people – so friendly and talk openly about global warming, a certain President of a certain country that shall not be named
Casa de Flores – our Airbnb home for two weeks. Especially enjoyed sunsets, cocktails and dinners with owner Sherry and her daughter Megan, hope to see you somewhere, sometime again soon!
A$8 Cocktails – Tequila Sunrise & Daquiri
Finding Wally …
That anything goes on the beaches – people, smoking, alcohol, horses, dogs (on and off lead), beach vendors, bars, restaurants etc. And everyone is happy – Pura Vida! No dog fights, no dog sh*t, no problems.
Haagen-Dazs ice-cream at reasonable prices
28% of Costa Rica is protected conservation area
Recycling bins at airports and on the streets
NOT so much …
The roads/potholes
The spraying of molasses on the roads to stop the dust
Crocodiles practically on the beach
Plastic bags at the check-outs
Sun is pretty vicious (like Australia really) and it’s hot, hot, hot (in winter)
PICS FROM “DOWNTOWN” …
DID YOU KNOW …
Costa Rica disbanded their army on 1 Dec 1948 – and have spent the money instead on education, health and conservation.
When Nicaragua has tried to invade them in the past, they have politely declined help from the US, Canada, and others and instead (a) negotiated with them on one occasion and (b) took them to Court on the other occasion. Makes you think, doesn’t it?
YOU WHAT NOW??
Although there are street names – street numbers and “addresses” don’t exist – when giving an address, directions are from the closest landmark (eg: a tree, a hotel, a shop, a bank) or provide a Google Maps co-ordinate. Makes it kinda tricky when immigration wants the address you’ll be staying at whilst in Costa Rica 🙂
LAST BUT NOT LEAST … LOVE, LOVE, LOVED coming across these gorgeous Macaws in the wild en route to San Jose on Sunday

Such an interesting & chilled country. Hugh is very envious of those amazing Macaws.

They were amazing! Reminded me of how amazed we were with the Cockies, the Lorikeets, Rosella’s etc when we first arrived. We take them for granted now.

Fascinating – interesting mix with recycling bins everywhere but plastic bags still in use!!
Love the birds tho, just beautiful xx
Christopher Urtz
Question though – in taking the pictures of the parrots – did you stand absent-mindedly in front of several buses that were trying to pull in, as you tried to get the “just right” angle on the parrot? Asking for a friend. 😉
Sandy
Bwahaha,ha!! No, I’m not that senile yet 🙂 I would have loved to see how fast you moved when they honked you though!!
